How To Clean, Degrease and Lube a Bike Freewheel

Using an old dirty freewheel, I show how to degrease, clean, and lubricate a freewheel for a bike. This wheel was in my garage, and I can’t remember what it came from. But it was pretty dirty. So I figured it would make a good example for how to clean a freewheel. I use WD-40 to clean out the insides, but many people use other things such as penetrating oil, Tri-Flow, Kerosene, Mineral Spirits, or even degreaser. But I have used WD-40 in the past, and not had issues with it. I used Phil Tenacious Oil to lube the freewheel. My manuals just says use a “medium weight oil” with no definition of what that is. Some people use motor oil. I have even seen a neat tool that allows you to pump a light grease into the freewheel.
