This is how to fix a Shimano Alivio trigger type shifter that doesn’t shift. The symptom is that you move the trigger, but it just doesn’t catch. the problem is that the pawl mechanism inside the shifter is stuck due to dried grease. You need to clean the old grease out and lubricate it. This shifter is from GT LTS-5 mountain bike. I use WD-40 as a solvent to dissolve the old grease. I used Tri-Flow to lube the shifter, but a light spray grease or heavy oil will work.
